Biz Town

I had the opportunity to accompany the fifth graders to BizTown. What a great experience it was! Right in the heart of Tempe is this building that looks pretty plain and when you walk in, there's an entire little town created just for older kids to experience "life in the real world" as adults. There were several businesses that the children themselves ran. Weeks before the kids got there, the kids interviewed and applied for the various jobs they wanted. So the day of the field trip, they all knew where they were working and what their responsibilities would be. My job was to oversee the Newspaper. What a great learning opportunity for these kids! Bryson worked in the shop next to me at Cox 7 news station.

This is where Bryson "worked" as a field reporter for the Cox 7 news station. He interviewed several business "owners". The news reports were played on t.v.'s in all the business's throughout the day.

Bryson and co-worker going over stories to report on during the day...

working hard for the money baby!

Bryson came and found me to have lunch with him, isn't that sweet!

Bryson depositing his first paycheck of the day and the completely kid ran Wells Fargo Bank.

Quitin' time!
Bryson and his buddies met after work at Papa Johns for some chillaxin!
Jase was a DJ for the local radio station and Aaron was the CFO of Best Buy.

That is AWESOME! What a great way to let kids really experience what kind of thing they might want to do in the 'real' world!

I hope my kids get to go to Biz town. What a great experience. Maybe I need a little time in biz town to learn how to cope in the real world.
