Some of my fondest childhood memories are "kitchen dancing" with my dad. George Strait has a special place in my heart because his songs tie so many memories to my dad.
We use to go up to my grandparent's cabin in Columbine on Mt. Graham. And secretly, my favorite times were when we went with just our little family, no cousins, no friends just our family. We played cards, we hiked ladybug saddle, baldie or the old mill, we built forts, and picked raspberries at the Bible Camp. And, at night after it got dark, I would stand on dad's shoes as he two-stepped me all around the room (my dad's the best two-stepper)while mom made "little daddies" in the kitchen. Such good memories.
Over the years, I've learned a lot from my dad....
you can't worry about what other people think
be honest in all your dealings
take a risk
the best way to take off someone's boots is to straddle it and pull from the heel
keep learning new things
el pato is a great condiment for any food
it's never too spicy
if you ever stray, you can always find your way back
if someone's breaking into your house, you have the right to shoot them
it's okay not to keep your feet on the ground, if you were born to fly
be true to yourself
the gospel is true
never back down
home is the best place to be
and, I'm never too old to kitchen dance with dad.
Happy Birthday dad, I love you.
